Our tables have used a variety of upholstery configurations over the course of the company’s history, which stretches back to 1978.
Most tables have a combination of following upholstery pads:
On some of our tables, there is one large main pad instead of separate thoracic & pelvic pads. This pad is known as the “main pad”. For example, the MCT1, B1, and Mainframe Concept E tables have a single large main pad.
Many of our tables have upholstered covering plates on the base frame; these plates cover inspection ports in the plastic covering of the bottom of the table. The Optima, Generation, RX, RG, RM, and HL4 table series all have upholstered cover plates on the base frame.
Many of our tables have thin upholstered pads along the sides of the upper frames. We call these pads “side fillets”. Most of our older table models, from the nC2 backwards, have these “side fillets”.
We prefer to provide replacement upholstery pads instead of recovering the old pad. New wood provides a stronger fixture to the metal frames, and fresh foam is more hygienic and supportive than keeping the old foam.
The material cost of replacing the wood and foam is very small compared to the labour required to cover the pad.
When ordering replacement pads, please give us as much information as you can about the table:
The above information can be found on the ID plate of the table, which is a blue or black, credit-card-sized sticker or plate, found on the base frame or mainframe of the table.
For head pads, we only need to know the table type. E.g. MCT, Mainframe, RG
For thoracic, pelvic, ankle, and main pads:
Please measure the table so we can check the dimensions.
For thoracic pads, please measure B and C. The reason we ask for B, is that the width of the pelvic pad determines the width of the thoracic pad.
For pelvic pads, please measure B and A.
For ankle pads, please measure F.
If you have a main pad, please measure the widest point, and the longest point.
For other pads, please provide the best description and measurements you can.
WHEN MEASURING THE PADS, lay the tape measure along the top of the pad, and measure the outline of the pad, looking from above; Don’t bend the tape around the edge of the pad.
The pads can be covered in vinyl or leather.
Vinyl is a man-made material; usually its texture is grippier & the grain more visible than leather, and it comes in a limited range of colours. We have used a variety of different brands over time. We cannot always match the colour and texture exactly. If the vinyl starts to fail, it will go hard and crack.
Leather is a natural material, but we use pigmented leather that is mechanically smoothed, embossed, and covered with a fine vinyl top coat. This top coat protects the natural leather and provides a broader range of colours. The texture is usually very smooth, but you will sometimes see soft, long lines or natural scarring. If leather starts to fail, it will become sticky or simply very worn; the top layer may start to peel or flake off.
For Chiropractic Tables
Vinyl upholstery is impregnated with an antimicrobial substance that also inhibits the growth of mould and yeast. We recommend cleaning the vinyl with a small amount of soapy water, then wiping it with a micro-fibre cloth. A soft-bristled brush can be used for ingrained soiling. Avoid getting water on/into, or around the electric motors, pivot points, or inside the plastic base. Use small amounts of water and keep it on the upholstery. Beware that spray bottles often overspray onto the table, leading to a buildup of rust.
Petroleum, alcohol, bleach, and solvent-based cleaners will break down the polymers in the vinyl over time, making the vinyl stiffen and then crack. Petroleum can also be found in massage oils, creams and wipes. Some cleaning wipes also contain massage oil, which can contain Petroleum.
We recommend dusting your leather occasionally. If the leather gets dirty or stained, then use a simple, gentle, dedicated leather cleaner. Do not rub down the leather after every patient.
Try to keep the table out of direct sunlight and at least 2 feet away from direct heat sources.
